About

4th Sunday is simply a once-per-month worship team at St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, IN. The majority of the group has played together regularly for the better part of five years. In 2006, track by track on a two-channel TASCAM computer interface, the unnamed, unofficial group teamed with friends Bill Klickman, Natalie Whan, Jule Carmicheal, Jonathan Zinnel, Carrie Scheiber and Sydney Byerley to record 14 songs for a CD that was eventualy named Abide, after the first original song the team did in a church service in July of 2005.

Thirteen new songs and three years of playing later, the group decided to take a more formal run at a CD, this time recording at Tempel Studio in Fort Wayne. In roughly 15 hours, the group laid down and edited 10 orginal tracks (one hidden on the CD, written the day before final recording) and one song by Thor Braarvig (I Love You), a German missionary.

It was decided that the collaborative nature of the work called for a “band name,” as opposed to being published merely under singer/songwriter Neil Grepke’s moniker. “4th Sunday” emerged from a number of candidates for several reasons. First, it is when the group assembled and when the songs were born (the fourth Sunday of each month). Second, its simplicity (“hey, this is the fourth Sunday worship team”) is meant to avoid the pretentiousness of “hey, we’re a band now.” Third, there are always four Sundays in advent, and as we inch closer to Christ’s second coming, it is as if we are historically in the fourth week of the Second Advent.

The members of 4th Sunday pray that their music serves to draw all listeners closer to God. Thanks be to Him for His sacrifice, His mercy and His love, though we in our sin do not deserve any of it!
